“Nay of the Nile: Poetry in Ritual Motion”
☥
@KamitanArts at the Tate Late
Fri 5th Sep 6-10pm in the Clore Studio 💫
Location: Tate Britain, Millbank, SW1P 4RG
Join Kamitan Arts for a powerful live performance fusing bi-lingual Rap-Poetry, Indigenous Egyptian live music and ‘Maat’ian Movement’. Led by Princess Emmanuelle, the choreography is inspired by Ancient Egypt and explores cultural identity and indigenous ancestral spirituality. The performance echoes Colquhoun’s surrealist lens and resonates with Burra’s reflections on disability and marginalisation, offering an embodied response shaped by Princess Emmanuelle’s own lived experience as a long-term injured dancer and choreographer of Coptic and Upper Egyptian heritage. The piece will have live music by multi-instrumentalists Mina Salama and Sarah Tobias, accompanied by a young dancer that was a prominent voice in Kamitan Arts’ inaugural ‘Kensington and Chelsea Poetry Fringe’, the visually powerful artwork of a young Coptic artist from North Kensington and a renowned artist from Luxor. Together infusing Ancient Egyptian sacred philosophy and ritual, transforming poetry, movement and sound into a synchronised living act of resistance, healing, cultural reclamation and rematriation.
